Appointments
How to Make an Appointment
Telephone or call at the Ditton Priors Surgery on Monday to Friday between:
08:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 – 18:00.
You will be given an appointment to see the doctor of your choice as soon as possible.
Urgent cases, accidents or patients taken suddenly ill will always be seen immediately without an appointment.
OR
Schedule non-urgent or routine appointments through the *NHS App.
*Registration is required for using the NHS App; for more information, The NHS App
Practice Nurses
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
Telephone Advice
If you wish to speak to the doctor, telephone Ditton Surgery. The receptionist will take your name, telephone number and message. When the doctor is free he will return your call. This will usually be after the morning surgeries.
Enhanced Access
Local GP practices working together to offer more convenient appointment times for patients.
As from 1st October, 2022, we will be part of a network of practices in Shropshire, working together to offer patients ‘Enhanced Access’ to pre-bookable appointments - in the evenings and on weekends.
In Shropshire, local practices will work together in a network of ‘hubs’ to provide this service. The ‘hubs’ will take turns to provide the Enhanced Access appointments to patients. This means patients could be offered an appointment at their own surgery or at a nearby practice in the local area (part of the hub). Patients will be advised about appointment location at time of booking, enabling them to make an informed choice about where and when they access care.
Locally the pre-bookable appointments will be available as follows:
- Weekday evenings (Monday to Friday) between 6.30pm and 8pm (at a local area hub)
- Saturdays between 9am and 5pm (at a local area hub)
Arranging a pre-bookable evening, weekend or bank holiday appointment is easy to do - patients simply need to contact us, during normal opening hours, and speak to the practice receptionist or a member of the practice team who will be able to help. Appointments may not be with your registered GP but will be with a GP or other qualified healthcare professional.
Enhanced Access adds to the existing range of healthcare services already available in Shropshire to help patients, including pharmacists, NHS 111, the walk-in centre, minor injury units, and A&E (which is there 24/7 for life threatening serious emergencies only).
Home Visits
Please telephone before 10:00 to request a visit if you are too ill to come to the surgery so that the doctors can plan their calls.
Home visits are normally undertaken at anytime between midday and 14:00; you should not expect the doctor to arrive immediately following the end of the morning surgery.
Please only request visits if absolutely necessary as the doctor can see 3 patients in surgery in the same time taken for 1 home visit. The doctor also has better conditions and facilities for sorting out your problem at the surgery.
Home visits are not available to assist with problems of transport to the surgery. The doctor may telephone you before visiting to clarify your problem. Visits are for the house-bound and those too unwell to visit the surgery.
Emergency Visits
If your problem needs a doctor straight away, make this quite clear to the receptionist, who will contact the doctor immediately. In certain circumstances an ambulance will also be summoned.
Cancelling or changing an appointment
You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.
